It has been a whirlwind of a month here at Christine's Garden in Stoney Creek
and it's not slowing down. The Master Gardeners of Ontario Conference is fast approaching this coming weekend in Guelph and I am counting down the days.
Speaking of, the Halton Master Gardeners meeting this month was outstanding with the focus being gardening for birds with special guest speaker Kevin Kavanagh. I love trying to bring the birds to my front yard each spring and was very interested to try and learn some new strategies.
The Stoney Creek Garden Club has been very active this month as well. The monthly meeting hosted Toronto Master Gardener Helen Battersby who gave a wonderful presentation about "See Through Gardening". She was also incredibly polite when answering my silly question which I always greatly appreciate. In addition, I was honoured to be able to work with our Vice-President on a special project for Amica Senior Lifestyle Residences. It was a lot of fun and allowed us to be quite creative which is always nice when the weather starts to warm up. We made some spring planters for the front entrance with some gorgeous hellebores, ranunculus, lungwort, and other non-invasive spring loving plants from Winona Gardens. Don't forget to check out the upcoming Spring Plant Sale at Battlefield Park May 11th, 2024.
If all this wasn't enough the Hamilton Dahlia & Chrysanthemum Club Annual Tuber Sale just went down this weekend and let me tell you it was not for the faint of heart. Things were flying off the virtual shelves left, right, and centre!!
As always, I am thrilled to be combining my favourite passions of gardening and floristry and am grateful for the upcoming bookings I have coming up to keep me on my toes. A beautiful front garden refresh for a homeowner in Grimsby gave me the chance to suggest some native species and ground cover plants to try and tackle some invasive weeds that are outcompeting the rest of the garden.
With that complete, I can focus on my sponsorship of the Essential Aid Hamilton Mothers Day Tea, a beautiful upcoming wedding booking, and of course... spring corsage and boutonniere season.
Oh. Did I mention that I have over 100 Floret Dahlia seedlings growing here in my back sunroom? Right. That entire project to turn our home into a cut flower farm. Cant forget about that.
Your friend in gardening,
Christine
